About The Cities War Football League

This is an explainer article about the Cities War Football League (CWFL). If you want to skip to the rewards or announcements section, click the underlined words.

The Cities War Football League is a simulated football (soccer) league made up of teams (with custom players) made by CW people. The league is played on matchsimulator.com. The customized players in the teams are real football players (Messi, Pele, Ronaldo), CW players (Anzee, Josey, BigALL), and made-up players (Johnathan Wyatt, Justin Bieber, Diogo Crack).

How does the Game work?

A team goes against other teams in a simulator. The win depends on team strength (OVRs, attack, and defense) and luck. Teams play with the main formation chosen by the simulator, being the best lineup although with some out-of-position players. For a bit more than 2 weeks, teams would play at least 2 matches per day for at least 2 competitions. The competitions are: the League, the Champions League, the Europa League, and the Cup of War.

How to See League and Other Cups

When the season starts, links will be shared in the #football channel in the CWNews server (link). Everyone can see the league and cup results. You may also ask the link from Drk, Canada, or other managers. Managers (owners of teams) are pinged (@managers) when matches will get simmed or when there's updates/polls. Match summaries (timelines) are available for 24h after the simming, unless Drk or Canada save the match summary.

How to Create a Team

There are several steps to make a football team:

  1. Name your team.

  2. Choose 2 colors for your team.

  3. Build your team with at least 16 players. These are FREE.

a. Name of Player - The name is made-up or based on someone. The name can be what your creative mind tells you. Just don't name your player by an existing football player or a FIFA Icon. You can put the name of a CW Player that's not taken, a made-up name, or a name of a legend that's not in FIFA Icon 20-23 (Francesco Totti & Joachim Streich, for example). Consult Drk to see which CW names are taken, and if you can add a parodied-changed-up name of an existing player. Females can join the league.

b. Nationality - The country of a player. It is a real country. These are the acceptable countries: France, Brazil, Germany, Spain, England, Italy, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium, Netherlands, Uruguay, Croatia, Denmark, Morocco, Colombia, Senegal, Serbia, Austria, Mexico, Switzerland, Poland, Algeria, Sweden, Czech Republic, Turkey, Ukraine, Ivory Coast, Russia, Norway, Scotland, Nigeria, Chile, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Ghana, United States, Wales, Japan, Cameroon, Venezuela, Korea Republic, Peru, Hungary, Ecuador, Paraguay, Republic of Ireland, Canada, DR Congo, Albania, Mali, Romania, Jamaica, China PR, Finland, Montenegro, Australia, North Macedonia, Guinea, Kosovo, Northern Ireland, Egypt, Iceland, Costa Rica, Tunisia, Israel, Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Georgia, New Zealand, Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Gambia, Bolivia, Congo, Bulgaria, United Arab Emirates, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Honduras, Panama, North Korea, Gabon, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Curacao, Cuba, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe. (These countries are in the 2021-22 mod, colors according to their confederation).

If you want to put your player in another country, realize that that player won't play national matches due to the national team being non-existent in the mod.

c. Position - These are the positions available on the sim:

  • The blue is the attackers, the ones trying to score. The green is midfield, the ones that are the bridge between the attack and defense. The orange are the defenders, the ones trying to defend the goal and helping the goalie. The red is the goalie, the one protecting the goal.

  • There are 10 players and 1 goalie on the field. The rest of the roster are substitutes. They have a position but don't play as a starter.

  • There can be several CBs (central backs), CMs (central midfielder), CAMs (central attacking midfielder), CDMs (central defending midfielder), and STs (striker) on the field in the same lineup.

d. Ratings - To create the players, you need the OVRs. OVRs are overall ratings, basically the rating of a player when averaging the stats. Here is the table of ratings:

Ratings

e. Buying - Each team starts with $500m. While created players are free, existing football players are not. There might be a transfer window going on when you're making the team, so you can buy any player that's not from Manchester City, Arsenal, or the CW teams. It can be a normal FIFA card, a TOTS Card, a TOTY card, an Icon, or a Champions RTTW card. For the normal cards, just say the name and the card will be added. Only 2022 cards will be accepted for now (exception being the Icon cards, 20-22). You can't buy 2 versions of a card, nor another version of a card. For example, you can't buy a separate TOTS Messi card since Messi is already owned by BigCAS in its TOTY version). Click the yellow words to see the card lists. Click here to skip over to the Transfer Season section to see costs.

Upgrades

Here's an example of a lineup:

As part of the rewards, you earn OVR points. Your focus when upgrading players is to add to the OVR of one or several players. For example, a team earns 5 OVR points. You can add them all to one player, 1 to each of several players, or any mixed amount to each of several. For example, I can give Starbucks and 4 others 1 each, or I can give Sir Nils 5, or I can give MMG 3 and NTE 2.

The only rule here is: 2 OVR points for +1 OVR for players 97+. So for example, if I want to upgrade Christian (who is a 97), I would need 2 OVR points to upgrade him to a 98, and 2 more for a 99.

Transfer Season

When the transfer season comes, it's time to buy players. You can buy any player here. To buy a player from a CW Team (and from Manchester City/Arsenal), you must negotiate a price of sale, and agree for the selling of the player. Sometimes the CW player being sold cares of whether leaving or not leaving a team. For example, Anzee has expressed his disdain for BigALL and not being owned by him, wanting to leave the team. So sometimes in these cases the opinion of the player being traded also counts. However, the player CANNOT be released until both clubs agree.

When you buy a TOTS card whose owner team had as a normal version, the normal cost money goes to the owner team while the rest of the money goes to the league. Max rating is a 99. All cards (Champions RTTW, TOTY, TOTS) have to be 22 version. Read a bit more information about the transfer season here.

Sponsors and Logos

Sponsors are basically those who give money to show off on your team kits. Although it seems useless to have one right now, it does give a good revenue. Sponsors give a start-up money for the season plus an amount of money per league win. This for a contract of 4-5 seasons. These contracts have a condition, and that's to be in a certain position in the league and/or competitions. Season VI is the season where sponsors are to renew contracts or offer new ones.

Please, if you can make your football (soccer) logo for your team, it'll be very welcome as future projects will be using the team logos.

Style of Competitions

For senior teams, there are 3 competitions: the league, the Cup of War, and the Champions/Europa League. All senior teams play at least 2 matches per day. The Cup of War is played by the Top 16 teams of last season's league, and excludes home advantage. The Champions league will now have 24 teams playing in 8 groups: the top 8 teams of the league and the top 16 clubs of the world. The new Europa League will be 32 teams, with the 8 teams below the Top 8 of the league, and the 24 clubs below the top 8 of the world.

Youth Teams

Youth teams are the training teams of the senior teams. They send off the young players to their parent teams, and also receive relegated players to train them for at least a season. OVRs are more abundant here because they're more useful to send players up. They now don't earn money, however.

To create a youth team, it's like the official team but with a different table of ratings:

Ratings

Players Limit

80

3

78-79

5

74-77

7

70-73

Unlimited

There are now new rules for upgrades since the teams will now start off on the new Youth league:

- New players get 3-season contracts. After these 3 seasons, if the player is 84+, he gets promoted. If not, he stays for another season, until he/she gets the required.

- Relegated players play for a season. If 88+, they automatically get promoted back up to the main team.

- 3 players can be relegated at a time.

- OVRs are now earned based on wins and ties (counting as half a win). This plus a bonus of 7 OVRs.

- You can't upgrade a player more than 6 OVRs per season.

- You can buy players, but from the pocket of the senior team.

All these rules will start from the 6th season forward.

Genesis Academy

Genesis Academy will be a youth team, but without a parent team. This team is to move the market with new players with different nationalities, and will directly offer their players to senior teams in an effort to make the market more active. The team will operate under the same rules as the rest, except all its players will be 79+, and will get a 10 OVR bonus. However, the Academy is barred from participating in the Youth Cup. The Academy will have a budget of $200m to buy players. Senior teams can pay the academy to train players below 87 for a season, but the academy reserves the rest to decide how much the upgrade will be.

If you want to join the league as a player, you must start in Genesis Academy or ask the owners of the youth teams (Albert (Joaquin), Canada, Zmmiz, BigALL, ReedyTurnip) to include you during the upgrade window (end of season). Just say your name (use your CW name or any name you want), country (if you want to play for a country not yours, fine), and position you would like to play in.

Announcements

- Sponsor Contracts have officially ended. You will be contacted to renegotiate sponsor contract details.

- The Champions League will be shrunken to 24 teams, all in 8 groups. The Top 8 of last season and the Top 16 clubs of the world. The measure is to make the Champions League more worth, and the new Europa League more competitive.

- The Europa League will be like the one of real life, except the Champions League group 3rd placers going to the Europa League. The winner of the Europa League will go to next season's Champions League.

- The youth teams have ended their path in the official league, and will play in the new Youth League.

- A possible new team will join the league.

- The league will start around January 15, although not certain.

Rewards for Season V

Each season, lineups are posted in the second half of the season or at the end of it. This allows people to do upgrades. The lineups for season 5 can be found here.
